Generate tasks with AI
Hand AI a one-line project description; get tasks, dependencies, and durations automatically. 70% less planning time.
Hand AI a one-line project description and it generates tasks, dependencies, and time estimates. Dramatically shortens the planning phase.
Step 1: Open "Generate with AI"
You'll find a "Generate with AI" button in the new-project flow or in the task-add menu of an existing project. Click it to open the input field.
Step 2: Describe the project in 1-2 lines
Aim for medium-specific - here's the calibration:
- Good: "Ship a BtoB SaaS MVP in 3 months on React + Rails, Stripe for payments"
- Bad (vague): "Build an app"
- Bad (too detailed): listing tasks one-by-one yourself
Including industry, tech stack, deadline, and team size improves accuracy.
Step 3: Review the proposed tasks
Within seconds you get 10-30 tasks with names, durations, and dependencies. Nothing is committed to the project yet.
Step 4: Trim and adjust
AI catches gaps but can also over-propose. Check or uncheck each task, edit names or durations as needed.
Step 5: Click "Add to project"
All checked tasks (including dependencies) are added in one shot. From there it's just assignment and fine-tuning. Compared to manual entry, planning is 70-80% faster.
Tips for getting more out of it
- Check for "boring" tasks like "environment setup" and "security review" - their presence is a sign AI caught easily missed work.
- First-pass estimates skew optimistic. Multiply durations by 1.2-1.5 for a more realistic plan (see estimation tips).
- Generate multiple times with the same prompt - different runs surface different angles. Cherry-pick the best.
