12-Month Solo Founder Roadmap
An employee planning to launch a startup from side projects / 1 person β 3 people
βTo stop just talking about starting a company, I built a backward-planned 12-month roadmap in Ganty and pinned it to my desk. Customer interviews, MVP, incorporation, first revenue β each month has a clear milestone, so I never lose direction even while keeping the day job.β

Background
After three years of "I want to start a company," I committed to a backward-planned timeline: a "first revenue" goal twelve months out, with monthly milestones and phases. The day job stays, so I used AI to generate initial tasks and compress time.
How they used Ganty
- Four phases: validation (M0-2) β MVP (M2-5) β beta (M4-7) β incorporation & first revenue (M7-12)
- Customer interview targets: explicit monthly goals (M1: 10 interviews, M2: 15, ...)
- Milestones: "first PoC working," "10 active users," "company incorporated," "first revenue" as diamond markers
- Parallel tracks: "weekend work" and "weekday morning work" color-coded to coexist with the day job
- AI task generation: at the start of each month, ask AI for the next month's missing tasks
Results
"Someday" became "next month." 92% milestone hit rate, 42 customer interviews, incorporation in M11, first revenue in M12. The originally estimated 18-month runway was compressed to 12. The chart I wish I'd had three years ago.
